About The Position

Element Resources is one of the leading Battery Recycling facilities in the country and has been a mainstay in the Forest City community for over 30 years. Did you know that batteries are the most recycled product in the world with a more than 99 percent recycling rate? Element provides an essential supply of recycled products to America's battery manufacturers to produce high-quality, top-performing batteries to power cars, trucks and forklifts, which are vital to keeping our country's supply chain running. This position will be responsible for providing and maintaining technical health and safety support to production and administrative personnel. The following will also be required: Development of all plant health and safety programs and their objectives. Coordination of health and safety training programs. Spending time on the plant floor with employees, mentoring and monitoring the H&S program Monitoring Federal and State regulations to ensure compliance, while ensuring that all federal, state, and Element Resources policies and regulations pertaining to industrial hygiene (i.e. personal protective equipment, sanitary facilities, emergency equipment, air quality, etc.) are met. Qualified candidates must be a self-starter with proven leadership and communication skills and will possess the ability to work with individuals from varied backgrounds, skills, and education levels to complete projects in an efficient and organized manner.

Requirements

  • Degree in Health and Safety Sciences or Industrial Hygiene and equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Health and Safety management.
  • Must have experience with industrial hygiene practices.
  • Experience with developing and deploying safety programs in the plant.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state & site regulations.
  • Oversight of Health & Safety Training for compliance.
  • Develop & train ALL employees and Supervisors on HS requirements.
  • Perform personal air monitoring tests as required.
  • Take regular noise level readings in plant areas as required.
  • Oversee all emergency equipment.
  • Responsible for new-hire employee safety orientation and contractor safety programs.
  • Conduct respirator fit testing as needed and respirator refresher training annually.
  • Maintain complete records on personal air testing, inspections, respirator fit testing, and blood leads.
  • Maintain an effective respirator program that includes training, record keeping, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Manage blood lead and lead in air sampling programs.
  • Maintain an inventory of all types of respirators used by plant personnel.
  • Conduct seminars and training sessions for internal hygiene programs, government agencies, and visiting managers.
  • Provide first aid facility and actions for plant personnel.
  • Must be familiar with all hygiene related equipment and assist in maintenance.
  • Manage employees responsible for the plant services/security.
  • Facilitate and assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning and implementation.
  • Work with various vendors and contractors to ensure safe practices in the Forest City facility.
  • Coordinate with vendors to acquire necessary liability agreements and ensure insurance requirements are met.
  • Prepare reports and statistical analysis of Health and Safety data for plant and corporate review.
  • Recommend & implement safe work procedures and behavior.
