About The Position

The position is responsible for the permitting, licensing, registration, plan review, emergency response, public education, investigation, enforcement, and prosecution of complaints affecting the health, safety, and welfare of the community in accordance with local, state, and federal law. This includes the interpretation, implementation, and enforcement of various regulations including the Board of Health Regulations, Licensing Board Regulations, Lawrence Revised Zoning Ordinance, Lawrence Municipal Code, environmental regulations, Massachusetts General Laws, and the Code of Massachusetts Regulations for businesses, residences, events, and public property.

Requirements

• Experience or education in Health & Sciences, Construction/Trades, Emergency Services, Legal, Engineering, Computer Technology, Code/Law Enforcement, or other related field.

Responsibilities

• Inspect all Food and Drink Establishments and food products, collect samples for analysis, seize and condemn unfit food, investigate complaints, and take appropriate actions for sub-standard or contaminated food.
• Investigate sources of filth and causes of sickness to abate violations and correct unsanitary conditions, perform sanitary inspections of sewage disposal systems, municipal waste disposal, and municipal water supplies.
• Participate in adjusting, sealing, testing, and condemning weighing or measuring devices involved with public sale, investigate complaints of short weights and measures, and inspect food and merchandise labels.
• Perform general inspections and investigations to enforce codes and regulations relevant to buildings and businesses, identify hazards and nuisances, and review plans for occupancy.
