About The Position

As a Health & Safety Advisor, you’ll play a key role in CEA CAPA’s organizational commitment to student safety and wellbeing. You’ll work closely with a dynamic team to help educate, empower and support students who may face additional challenges either before they go abroad or while they are in their program location. Through personalized predeparture advising, dedicated onsite case management, collaborative problem-solving using a kind and reasonable approach to issues, and effective communications, we aim to increase accessibility to education abroad, improve the student experience, and ultimately enhance student safety and wellbeing abroad.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • International study, intern and/or work experience required.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and the ability to reconcile differences in a way that reflects a collaborative approach and sensitivity to different views and cultures.
  • Strong ability to utilize Microsoft Outlook suite, Salesforce, AI, Canvas, video conferencing, and online research.
  • Excellent communication skills and high comfort level with discussing sensitive topics via phone calls, video calls, email and/or text messages.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, execute multiple initiatives simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn, take on new challenges and understand diverse perspectives.
  • Ability to handle private and sensitive information in an appropriate and mature manner, maintaining established data privacy regulations.
  • Tolerance for a high degree of ambiguity and last-minute changes to what you had planned to do on any given day.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in study abroad, customer service, residential life, insurance, risk management, or similar experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate via email, phone, text or video calls with participants, their support network or home institutions who have questions regarding various topics including health, wellness, safety, student affairs, and security while abroad on a CEA CAPA program.
  • Review participant Health Information Forms and advise participants on availability of services and support abroad.
  • Maintain updated international travel and health insurance information, be able to answer questions about insurance coverage and assist with enrollment and reconciliation process.
  • Participate in virtual or in-person predeparture orientations, information sessions, or webinars, where required, to discuss health, safety or wellness concerns.
  • Create and maintain engaging predeparture materials to enhance student success abroad.
  • Monitor student concern cases and maintain open communication with team members to ensure timely follow-up is occurring with students. Inform students' emergency contacts of case status, where required.
  • Maintain detailed, organized and thorough case notes and documentation for student concern cases.
  • Support CEA CAPA emergency response through investigation, communication, note taking, record keeping, or other duties as required.
  • Serve as member of the Emergency Phone Team by being on call for at least four one-week periods (per year) to answer the US Emergency Phone and relay information to appropriate team members.
  • Create regular reports to identify trends, patterns, service improvements or other related to student concerns, global events, and more to improve best practices.
  • Conduct research in the field of higher education and international education related to health and safety to inform CEA CAPA policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Create materials and assist with pan-organizational training on various health and safety topics or key areas of interest.
  • Investigate opportunities to streamline services using AI tools, online platforms and other technologies.
  • Provide support upon request to various CEA CAPA projects and initiatives including but not limited to first year experience, custom programming, student support, risk management.
  • Collaborate with various CEA CAPA departments on health and safety initiatives, assist in timely communications, meetings and trainings.
  • Assist in meetings with institutional partners regarding student cases, policies, procedures, or services.
  • Contribute to institutional surveys and requests for information regarding health, safety and risk management topics.
  • Participate in pre-departure orientations, webinars, professional conferences and events to communicate and promote Health and Safety at CEA CAPA, as requested.
