About The Position

The Health Program Specialist I - Oral Health Caseworker is responsible for performing routine public health work within various public health programs. This role involves planning and developing public health education initiatives, providing consultative services, and technical assistance to program staff, governmental agencies, and community organizations. The position is grant-funded, unclassified, and subject to at-will employment status, meaning it can be terminated at any time for any reason. The specialist will work to advance health equity and may be required to obtain relevant immunizations due to the nature of the work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in public health, health promotion, sciences, social sciences, or other health-related field.
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of current public health programs, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of public health laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of counseling and interviewing techniques.
  • Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to interpret public health laws and regulations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to document clearly and concisely pertinent information.
  • Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Implement evidence-based prevention initiatives to help the community improve and maintain their health.
  • Conduct field outreach to participate in community initiatives.
  • Maintain relationships with community and partner organizations regarding health initiatives.
  • Interview persons to determine demographic, medically relevant information, and risk factor data.
  • Contact physicians, hospitals, and medical laboratories to obtain patient information.
  • Counsel patients concerning risk reduction and behavior modification.
  • Collect data for use in planning and evaluating the effectiveness of public health education programs.
  • Conduct data entry.
  • Provide public health education to individuals.
  • Serve as an education and information resource to the public on health and public health issues for the community.
  • Assist in collecting and preparing materials in response to public health information and report requests.
  • Train personnel as needed.
