About The Position

The Health Physics (Radiological Engineer) position involves providing technical support in health physics and dosimetry to monitor radiation exposure among workers. Responsibilities include performing dose calculations for internal and external dosimetry, monitoring exposure trends, investigating potential exposures, and assisting in the development of compliance policies and procedures. The role also includes providing technical guidance for peers, managing computerized databases for dose records, assisting with audits, and participating in emergency response teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering/science discipline.
• Eight or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered.
• Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A.
• Newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties impacting the safety basis of nuclear facilities.

Nice To Haves

• Health Physics/Engineering operational experience is preferred.
• Certification or progress towards certification by the American Board of Health Physics.
• Registration by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support in health physics/dosimetry to monitor workers for radiation exposure.
• Perform dose calculation for internal and external dosimetry.
• Monitor exposure trends and use radiological data to assess performance.
• Investigate internal and external exposures to determine potential intakes and causes.
• Assist in the development of policies, technical bases, and procedures for compliance.
• Provide technical guidance for peers and technicians in TLD and bioassay administration.
• Use computerized database systems for dose of record and ensure proper records management.
• Assist with audits and assessments of programs, practices, and work areas.
• Participate on emergency response team.
