Ames Laboratory is seeking a Health Physicist I or II to support the Environment, Safety and Health department. The Health Physicist implements control programs in health physics, radiation safety, laser, radiofrequency, and other electromagnetic energy sources to protect workers and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and industry standards of practice. This individual will provide technical advice and health physics support to Ames Laboratory and backup support to Iowa State University to implement the Ames Laboratory strategic plan, mission, vision, and goals. In addition to the duties above, the Health Physicist II will be expected to monitor regulatory changes, evaluate program conformity, revise these programs, conduct surveys, and evaluate regulatory compliance. Excellent coordination and communication skills are needed to effectively negotiate and appropriately influence the safety behavior of individual lab workers, group leaders, and research lab groups towards better procedures for best management practices. This position involves multiple tasks with the ability to prioritize various temporally interrelated tasks and complete them as efficiently as possible.
