About The Position

Helping People. Changing Lives. Must be fluent in two or more languages, including one that supports the needs of the program and community. In conjunction with the Health and Nutrition Manager, implements and monitors the health, safety, and nutrition services for the Early Education and Child Care programs, including Early Head Start, Head Start, Migrant and Seasonal Head Start, and State Child Development Programs. Partners with staff, families, and community agencies to improve children’s health outcomes. Supports CAPSLO’s mission by promoting health and wellness that aids in the achievement of self-sufficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Science, Health Administration, Biology, or Nutrition.
  • Must provide certificates of completion of approved pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR training within 30 days of hire. The employee is responsible for renewing and maintaining a valid CPR/first aid certification at all times
  • Must have dependable, insured transportation and valid California Driver’s License.
  • Must be fluent in two or more languages, including one that supports the needs of the program and community.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory, administrative or training/monitoring experience in a nutrition, community involvement, child care or Head Start program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the health, safety, and nutrition content areas comply with all applicable regulations, including the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), Community Care Licensing regulations, and the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program.
  • Monitor and follow up on children’s health status records for expectant women and children from birth to five years of age. Make sure all health, dental, and nutrition requirements are current according to the HSPPS and the State of California’s Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostics and Treatment (EPSDT) schedule.
  • Oversee data entry into the ChildPlus database for the health and nutrition content areas. As needed, perform quality assurance, generate reports, and support staff in maintaining accurate and usable data.
  • Conduct site visits to child care centers and family child care homes throughout the program year to monitor compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure collaboration with county and state agencies, health service providers, and community partners to secure services for program families.
  • Provide nutrition and health education to children, caregivers, staff, and contracted partners.
  • Work with the Health and Nutrition Manager to provide health and safety training to staff. Assists with the development, revision, and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist Health and Nutrition Manager with responding to Internal Referrals for children with special health conditions and follows-up with staff.
  • Monitor and compiles statistics for reports, including the annual Program Information Report.
