About The Position

The Health Market Department Manager at Hy-Vee is responsible for setting the department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and overall profitability. This role coordinates the delivery of innovative and high-quality products at competitive retail prices. The manager is expected to maintain a positive atmosphere, encourage teamwork, and ensure that customers receive prompt and courteous service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 1 - 3 years of previous related work experience.
  • Ability to compose original correspondence and follow technical manuals.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a positive attitude and creates an atmosphere of friendliness and fun through flexibility and teamwork.
  • Generates a friendly atmosphere by encouraging employees to greet and speak to customers.
  • Sets department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and overall profitability.
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, and enhancing the shopping experience.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly service to customers.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, disciplines, and evaluates all department employees.
  • Determines department goals with the store director.
  • Stays current on trends in product categories and educates customers.
  • Determines weekly work schedule and establishes daily work plans.
  • Inspects signage and displays for quality and quantity of merchandise.
  • Tracks product rotation, checks for expired items, and orders merchandise.
  • Communicates with employees regarding sales and ideas.
  • Handles and satisfies customer issues.
  • Figures retail pricing and ensures correct pricing.
  • Analyzes weekly and monthly sales trends and prepares ad projections.
  • Plans displays, promotions, and determines pre-orders.
  • Ensures compliance with sanitation guidelines and procedures.
  • Operates cash register accurately and reports improper cash levels.
  • Fills displays, checks in delivered merchandise, and works in the sales area.
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
