About The Position

The Senior Director, Research & Analytics, is a key member of the THI Leadership Team and responsible for identifying, conducting, and overseeing analysis relating to efforts to unlock healthcare dollars to buy health. They are a highly analytical and creative thinker with demonstrated success collecting, analyzing, and using data to convey a story and compel others to act. This individual is analytically meticulous, an excellent communicator to an array of non-academic stakeholders, knowledgeable about healthcare data and resources, and eager to build sustainable, robust data platforms. Specifically, this role has five primary functions: Oversee impact monitoring Develop THI's integrated data environment Produce all data / statistical deliverables Manage THI's research agenda, and Direct THI data & analytics partners A successful candidate will thrive in the fast-paced context of issue-based campaigns and/or start-up environments. They must demonstrate excellence in relational instincts, attention to detail, and communication skills. The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer on an interim basis and will work closely with the Co-Founders and Co-CEOs of THI, Rebecca Onie and Rocco Perla. As part of a small organization, the role may or may not have direct reports at any given time but will be responsible for leading and mentoring internal and external people to ensure all deliverables are executed flawlessly. As a member of the THI Leadership Team this role will also contribute actively in enabling THI to achieve organization-wide goals, bolstering culture and participating in organizational evolution as needed.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience using data and research to model/evaluate the impact of healthcare policy changes for public and/or private payers, leveraging artificial intelligence and leading strategic use of its capabilities
  • Expertise in data collection, statistical analyses, research and program evaluation methodologies, quantitative and qualitative research methods; and knowledge of healthcare/policy databases and sources.
  • A highly analytical and creative thinker with demonstrated success collecting, analyzing, and using data to convey a story and compel others to act.
  • Excellent ability to translate and communicate complex research findings to a wide array of non-academic constituencies.
  • Prior experience supervising data analysis and research work with internal resources or external partners.
  • Deep understanding of health policy and healthcare financing
  • Baseline knowledge of impact of drivers of health on healthcare outcomes/cost/utilization
  • PhD preferred in statistics, economics, actuarial science, health policy with an analytic focus, or health services research; Master's degree or higher required.
  • 5 years of experience as a manager or in managing contractors and agencies to deliver against organizational goals
  • Ability to understand the landscape of contexts, partner on analyses, and manage priorities and resources in a matrixed organization

Responsibilities

  • Oversee impact monitoring: Accountable for building, implementing, and updating a data platform to quantify the amount of money and number of recipients (1) THI has shifted to drivers of health (DOH) & (2) the overall healthcare sector is spending on food, housing & other DOH. Includes vetting and overseeing contracted support to build and manage this platform.
  • Develop THI's integrated data environment: Oversee the development and refinement of THI's proprietary integrated data environment, migrating from a Tableau interface to a relational database such as SQL, creating and executing reporting functions, and ensuring it is updated regularly. Includes securing and managing external resources.
  • Produce all data/statistical deliverables: Accountable for conducting all data and statistical analyses needed to support THI's work (internal and external requests) and providing technical review/writing for manuscripts, reports, and materials for external partners.
  • Manage THI's research agenda: Responsible for managing, updating, and tracking progress against research and data questions. Engage THI team to build research agenda based on organizational priorities.
  • Direct data & analytics partners. Oversee design and execution of research conducted by THI's staff, collaborators and contracted partners.
  • Define functional goals, in alignment with and in support of other THL functions including federal, state, plan and development goals.
  • Create and execute plan to achieve those goals
  • Collaborate effectively with other leaders to achieve collective goals.
  • Actively participate in the THI Leadership Team to strengthen organization-wide operations and culture.
