Health Information Technician Galen Medical Group offers several medical specialties throughout the Chattanooga region. Summary/Objective: The Health Information Technician is responsible for aiding the HIT Department with programming, maintenance and functional/technical support of the Provider Portal, Patient Portal, Practice Management System, and Electronic Medical Record System utilized by Galen. Support functions include but are not limited to normal maintenance of business, interfaces, upgrades, testing, maintenance of systems, access control, and assisting patients using the patient portal. Although you may specialize in one system as tech, you will work to learn the other system. Protect self and other team members by following all compliance, HIPAA, OSHA, and infection prevention. guidelines and regulations Ability to interact with physicians, staff, patients, and vendors, providing support in troubleshooting and/or determining proper solutions to resolve incidents, service requests, and changes. Responsible for managing basic level Help Desk tickets, email and telephone support requests in a timely manner with confidence in knowledge of system to assist or troubleshoot or escalates appropriately. Troubleshoot system issues by staff, providers, or patients using the patient portal. May remotely connect to user’s computer, determine minimal use-case to recreate issue, or solve if possible. Perform Applications and Portal testing for new releases and patches, and monitor performance after implementation, ensuring timely communication and follow-up, working together as a team with the other HIT Team Members. Prepare monthly Super User items including, not exclusive to, videos, education documents and on-site training. Monitor and communicate interface performance, and review of daily processes, reporting any issues Participate in monthly and quarterly meetings, as requested. Assist with training class for new employees. Research Termination List when received from HR. Maintaining Employee alerts. Ability to recognize, research and combine duplicate patient accounts. Portal Accounts: Assist patients with setting up patient portal accounts, troubleshooting, password resets. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of ICD-10, CPT, LOINC, & HCPCS codes for alignment and updates within the applications. Maintaining system setup by following proper protocols and routine maintenance as defined by the department Maintain lines of communication utilizing ZAC and Helpdesk at all times. Updating and completing tasks and projects in a timely manner using Zoho. Answering portal calls and messages, solving basic level helpdesk tickets, and handling unmapped labs. Adhere to internal HIT Communication Policy Assist IT staff with Active Directory issues, VPN remote access, and troubleshooting. Must be PC literate with strong computer navigational skills, as well as extensive knowledge of Windows, and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of basic medical terminology Takes initiative, eager to learn, and naturally curious. Must be a team player, within and outside of the HIT department. Ability to meet deadlines and work within specified time limit requirements, including time limits for goal achievement. Strong analytical, oral and written communication skills. Requirements

  • High School Diploma required
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in a healthcare information technology setting
  • Must be PC literate with strong computer navigational skills, as well as working knowledge of MS Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Web Browser Applications
  • Experience with Scheduling, and Billing Software
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records software
  • Excellent customer service skills, exceptional skills of organization, verbal and written communication, problem-solving, analysis and human relation skills
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Takes initiative, eager to learn, and naturally curious
  • Must be a team player, within and outside of the HIT department
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work within specified time limit requirements, including time limits for goal achievement

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical and coding experience preferred
  • Understanding of CPT, HCPCS & LOINC codes, Insurance, HL7 and Relational Databases preferred
