About The Position

The Health Information Technician IV (Health Information Supervisor) at Hilo Benioff Medical Center is responsible for overseeing the Medical Records department, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of medical records, and supervising staff in health information management activities. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in health information management
  • Two (2) or more years of medical records experience in a hospital or allied medical care facility
  • Two (2) or more years of specialized experience in health information management
  • One (1) or more year of supervisory experience in health information management

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a current Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT) certificate
  • Successful completion of an associate degree in a health information technology program (HIT) accredited by CAHIIM or recognized by AHIMA

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing medical records for completeness and accuracy, and translating diseases and operations into the proper coding symbols
  • Filing medical records or preparing records for retention
  • Typing medical reports of operations, imaging or laboratory examinations, or special treatments given to patients
  • Compiling statistics, including the hospital's daily census, information on reportable diseases for public health authorities and others
  • Assisting the medical staff by preparing special studies and tabulating data from records for research
  • Developing new and revised procedures for the Medical Records department
  • Reviewing working situations to ensure staff are following guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Recommending improvement to health information management processes
  • Supervises staff in the performance of para professional health information management activities
