About The Position

The Health Information Specialist at State Hospital North (SHN) in Orofino, Idaho, is responsible for managing patient health records in compliance with state and federal regulations. This role involves maintaining confidentiality, coordinating records activities, and ensuring the security of patient information. The specialist will work closely with patients, families, and healthcare providers to support the treatment process and follow-up care after discharge.

Requirements

• Good knowledge of state and federal requirements for the maintenance and retention of patient health records, typically gained by at least six months of relevant work experience.
• Good knowledge of state and federal requirements related to privacy, confidentiality, security, rights of access and release of patient health records, typically gained by at least six months of relevant work experience.
• Some knowledge of automated information systems, typically gained by at least three months of relevant work experience.
• Some knowledge of alphabetical, numerical, or subject filing systems, typically gained by at least six months of relevant work experience.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of, or current enrollment in, an accredited training program specific to state and federal requirements for patient health records, such as Health Information Technology.

Responsibilities

• Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information.
• Scanning, indexing, and exporting patient health records.
• Coordinate records activities with other departmental units.
• Authorize release of patient information.
• Ensure records system procedures comply with federal and state statutes and regulations.
• Compile patient census, statistical, and medical information for research and other special studies.
