The Health Information Services Clerk is responsible for filing and retrieving medical records, receiving, sorting and filing miscellaneous reports into the medical records, and delivering records as required within the medical group. Ensures that all charts are processed for scheduled appointments and other authorized requests. This position is full-time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to work during our normal business hours of 8:00am - 4:30pm PST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. Our office is located at 19191 S Vermont Avenue, Torrance, CA. We offer weeks of on-the-job training. The hours during training will be 8:00am - 4:30pm PST, Monday - Friday.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent work experience
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • Customer Service experience
  • Experience with computers including Windows based programs
  • Ability to work Monday - Friday, during our normal business hours of 8:00am - 4:30pm PST, including the flexibility to work occasional overtime, based on the business need

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of experience in a healthcare setting
  • Prior EMR experience

Responsibilities

  • Retrieves medical records for scheduled and unscheduled clinic appointments and other authorized requests
  • Files medical records as they are received
  • Drop files all loose reports into the medical records
  • Looks up medical record numbers on the computer terminal as needed
  • Answers telephones, logs each call, pulls medical records as requested or refers the caller to the appropriate department
  • Prepares purged medical records for storage
  • Open incoming mail and retrieves loose filing on a daily basis
  • Sorts medical records
  • Separates medical records according to filing standards
  • Reviews medical records for completeness
  • Maintains statistics
  • As part of ROI team, answering inbound calls and making outbound calls as needed
  • Uses, protects, and discloses HCP patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
