About The Position

The Health Information Management Onsite Specialist is responsible for the efficient management of patient information within the Health Information Management department. This role involves working with minimal supervision to ensure the accurate scanning, analysis, and release of medical records, while upholding security and confidentiality regulations. The specialist will also prepare birth certificates and maintain vital statistics, contributing to the overall quality and compliance of health information management.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required.
• Critical thinking skills and high level of attention to detail are essential.
• Previous experience in medical records or preparing birth certifications is preferred.
• Knowledge of HIPAA and Medical Terminology is highly preferred.

Nice To Haves

• Virginia Notary certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the efficient management of patient information utilizing all file systems within the Health Information Management department.
• Scan and analyze records in the electronic medical record system.
• Release information to patients and other healthcare professionals in accordance with regulations.
• Prepare birth certificates in compliance with state law.
• Process and maintain statistical information related to vital statistics.
• Perform quality analysis as required by the productivity standard.
• Process requests in accordance with state codes, federal regulations, and departmental policies.
• Process/scans discharged records according to the productivity standard.
• Uphold security and confidentiality regulations for record access and review.
• Alert HIM management and/or Risk Management of unusual or unclear requests.
