About The Position

The Health Information Management (HIM) Coordinator performs the duties related, but not limited to, the retrieval and distribution of medical record information needed for patient care, insurance, personal retention, research, and legal purposes. He/she will monitor and coordinate all HIM functions to include document management, chart analysis, chart pick up, chart prep and scanning, and release of information under the direction of HIM Operations Supervisor. Responsible for the maintenance of patient's legal health record, including coding and abstracting diagnoses, treatments, and other information from patient medical record. Ensures the facility's medical records are maintained in compliance with all accreditation and governmental regulatory agencies. Maintains privacy, security, and confidentiality of patient health information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required. Post-secondary training/education preferred.
  • Must have at least one or two years of prior health information experience or similar setting.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook and EMR.

Nice To Haves

  • CCS or CPC preferred.
  • RHIA or RHIT highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor HIM workload and work queues and manage system issues.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on essential HIM functions and workflows.
  • Assist with process improvement and standardization of HIM workflow.
  • Ensure timely completion, integrity, and authenticity of medical records.
  • Assist HIM Supervisor with daily coordination of HIM functions and workflow.
  • Monitor and report staff performance and productivity to the HIM Supervisor.
  • Report document management errors and/or discrepancies to HIM Supervisor.
  • Perform HIM essential functions and workflow duties as needed in the department.
  • Aid HIM leadership with the coordination of essential HIM functions and workflows.
  • Coordinate work to achieve deadlines, turnaround times, maximum productivity, and efficiency.
  • Demonstrate attention to details, keeps a consistently positive and cooperative demeanor in interactions with HIM team members.
  • Function as resource person for clinical department personnel to answer questions and assists with problem resolution.
  • Provide backup relief for various areas of Health Information Management Department.
  • Locate and pulls charts and copies requested following facility guidelines.
  • Assists in performing reporting and clerical functions within division.
  • Complete request forms, documents records retrieval activity, mails requested information to requesters and assists with production reports and logs.
  • Retrieve and delivers requests for medical record.
  • Perform some duties of Supervisor in their absence.
  • All other duties as assigned.
