About The Position

The Health Information Management Administrator 1 position at the Central New York Psychiatric Center's Orleans Satellite Unit involves serving as the Health Information Management liaison for assigned satellite and mental health units in correctional settings across New York. The role requires travel to various Corrections-Based Units (CBO) to conduct record reviews and prepare reports for administration. The administrator will provide training and guidance to clerical staff, educate unit staff on documentation requirements, and assist in preparing units for Joint Commission accreditation. Additional responsibilities include monitoring electronic system data accuracy, assisting with policy updates, and managing release of information requests.

Requirements

  • Current certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
  • Reachable on the current Health Information Management Administrator 1 eligible list.
  • One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Health Information Management liaison to CNYPC for assigned satellite and mental health units in correctional settings.
  • Travel to all Corrections-Based Units (CBO) to conduct and complete accurate record reviews of OMH records.
  • Prepare record review reports for assigned satellite and mental health units and disseminate them to Administration for appropriate follow up.
  • Provide training and guidance to clerical staff and new HIM staff in the satellite and mental health units.
  • Educate unit staff on documentation requirements, confidentiality, record maintenance, MHARS training, CNET training, FPMS, REMS training, and Joint Commission Standards.
  • Assist in preparing units for Joint Commission accreditation through record review and environmental suicide risk assessments.
  • Assist outside entities such as the Joint Commission and The Justice Center with collection of documentation for reviews.
  • Analyze and evaluate active records for accuracy, completeness, and continuity.
  • Monitor electronic system data accuracy and complete error corrections.
  • Assist all staff in corrections-based units with questions on policies and procedures.
  • Assist Outpatient HIM Director with updating policies and procedures for CBO.
  • Review purged records for completeness.
  • Assist staff at satellite units in preparing and completing terminated record reviews.
  • Assist all CBO satellite units in completing release of information requests.
  • Prepare OMH records for archive pickups twice a year.
