About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY Monitors and maintains how health information is technically captured, transmitted and utilized as it is applied to the continuum of healthcare delivery. Monitors the Mount Nittany Health Information Exchange (HIE) for accuracy and timeliness to ensure the focus on successfully achieving privacy and compliance. Enrolls new patients on the Mount Nittany Patient Portal, responding to patient questions regarding information viewing, and maintaining demographic changes and merges in Meditech. Reviews, manages and maintains the direct messaging functionality for importing electronic data into the Health Systems’ Health Information Systems (HIS). This position is instrumental in the testing and troubleshooting as additional information and functionality become available. Monitors the quality and integrity of the information interfacing into and out from the Health System’s Health Information System. Works with Health Informatics Project Specialist and Information Services (IS) to resolve technical issues.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Medical Office Specialist or Health Information Technology. Will also accept high school education with 4 years’ experience in Health Information Management field.
  • Meditech, preferred
  • Allscripts, preferred
  • Experience in health care application integration and knowledge of healthcare messaging standards such as HL7, XML X12, DICOM, networks, transports, and TCP/IP, preferred
  • Health Information Management Release of Information, preferred
  • Maintains a good understanding of Meditech demographic changes and merges.
  • Maintains a good understanding of Allscripts information location.
  • Ability to learn and work with multiple software packages
  • Good communication skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations
  • Ability to work independently
  • Highly organized
  • Ability to write procedures for this position

Responsibilities

  • On a daily basis, maintains integrity and accuracy of all systems housing patient information to ensure proper compliance and privacy across interfaces.
  • Oversees all aspects of execution, including identifying and solving problems that would otherwise delay the provision of new HIE services.
  • Develops a broad understanding of health information exchange industry practices and trends, especially in the areas of standards, security and privacy.
  • On a daily basis, completes enrollment of all new requests and respond to Patient Portal questions.
  • Maintains a good understanding of the software(s) used and functionality.
  • Possesses an excellent understanding of HIPPA regulations involved with portal functionality.
  • Processes all incoming direct messages, validating patient demographics and ensuring electronic upload is successful.
  • Manages all outgoing direct messages.
  • Works with Providers to set up and enroll with Direct Messaging functionality through a certified Health Information Services Provider (HISP).
  • Understands and monitors the Incoming and Outgoing HL7 interfaces.
  • Maintains, reviews, and troubleshoots direct messaging and Patient Portal.
  • Monitors the quality of the data that is electronically transferred into the Patient Portal and through Direct Messaging.
  • Works with Health Informatics Project Specialist and Information Services department when issues arise.
  • Attends all meetings with IS as changes and troubleshooting are required.
  • Participates in upgrade preparation and testing.
  • Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
