About The Position

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to conduct inspections, investigations and surveys of health facilities (Hospitals, Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASCs), End Stage Renal Dialysis Centers (ESRDs), Home Health Agencies (HHAs), Hospices, Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), Outpatient Physical Therapy and Speech Pathology (OPT/SP), Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation (CORF), Portable X-Ray Facilities (PXRs), Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs) and Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTFs), Rural Health Centers (RHCs)) for compliance with State Licensure requirements and/or Federal Medicare/Medicaid certification.

Requirements

  • Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an Associate or a Diploma Degree in Nursing and three (3) years of professional nursing experience or, a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and two (2) years of professional nursing experience or, a Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • Requires current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • Requires physical, visual, and auditory ability to carry out assigned duties.
  • Requires ability to travel.
  • Requires a valid Driver's license.
  • Requires access to an operating automobile and proof of automobile insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year experience in non-long term care setting.
  • Three (3) years professional nursing experience.
  • Two (2) years experience participating in the survey process for completion of all survey functions including but not limited to annual recertification, licensure, follow-ups, complaints and incident investigation surveys.
  • One (1) year experience preparing complex written & oral reports.
  • One (1) year work experience in Microsoft Word, processing, and spreadsheet applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to exercise judgement, discretion and maintain confidentiality during the conduct of the survey process.

Responsibilities

  • Travels and conducts surveys of Home Health Agencies, Hospices, Health Maintenance Organizations, rehabilitation, speech physical therapy and free-standing X-ray services and other related services to determine level of compliance with State Licensure requirements and Federal Medicare/Medicaid certification standards.
  • Prepares licensure and certification survey forms and reports of findings.
  • Investigate complaints as assigned.
  • Maintains up to date State Operations Manual (SOM) under Medicare Program for use in survey work, documentation requirements and consultations.
  • Participates in staff meetings, training sessions, seminars and workshops designed for improvement in survey process and individual performance.
  • Provides testimony during hearings or court proceedings.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
