About The Position

Marion County Public Health Department is seeking a candidate to participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of tobacco education programs. The role involves providing leadership and staff support to the Smoke Free Indy coalition, ensuring effective communication and outreach regarding tobacco control initiatives.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Public Health, Communications, or one of the social, behavioral, or medical sciences.
  • One year of related experience.
  • If a Health Educator, Certified Health Education Specialist is preferred.
  • Current Indiana driver's license and use of automobile.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Smoke Free Indy committees providing leadership and administrative support.
  • Compile requested data on tobacco/smoke free air policy and tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.
  • Conduct and evaluate health education programs through a healthy equity lens on subjects related to tobacco control with neighborhood groups, multi-family housing communities, youth/youth-serving organizations, the general public, and other interested organizations and individuals.
  • Design, develop, and distribute educational print material as necessary including quarterly Smoke Free Indy newsletter.
  • Create content for Smoke Free Indy social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube).
  • Assist in communicating the objectives/services of Smoke Free Indy and the Health Department to the general public, community agencies, and professional groups.
  • Review equipment resources; recommend audio-visual materials for purchase.
  • Build rapport and cooperative relationships within Smoke Free Indy, public administrators, agency staff, and neighborhood groups, and individuals.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Participate in public health emergency preparedness exercises and in the response to public health emergencies, as directed.
  • Participate in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. events totaling a minimum of eight (8) hours annually.
  • Assist in seeking external funding in the area of prevention and control of chronic disease.
  • Function as team member along with other Chronic Disease Program staff.
  • Assume responsibility for professional self-growth and continued development in relevant public health practices.
