Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or three years of experience in area to be taught.
  • Knowledge of the principles of teaching.
  • Ability to communicate complex information to people of diverse cultures and educational backgrounds.
  • If assigned to Lactation: requires a Lactation certification and one year lactation experience.
  • If assigned to Maternal Child Health: requires Heartsaver AED; the three years experience must be teaching perinatal community classes.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes and improves individual and community health by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors.
  • Assesses, plans, develops, coordinates, and implements health education programs for health-related issues using a variety of educational/training methods.
  • Provides scheduled educational classes as assigned using approved curriculum.
  • Maintains clinical competency.
  • Responsible for the delivery of courteous, efficient, quality health care to clients, including patient satisfaction.
  • Ensures adequate supplies of educational supplies and materials for the classes. Works with clerical support staff to obtain needed supplies and materials.
  • Works in conjunction with the healthcare team to support and educate patients and the public about lactation and breastfeeding (if assigned to Lactation).
  • Prioritizes patient referrals based on severity of patient need (if assigned to Lactation).
  • Maintains communication with the healthcare team to ensure identified lactation or breastfeeding problems are addressed and/or followed up on (if assigned to Lactation).
  • Utilizes resources to ensure patients receive post-discharge care if needed (if assigned to Lactation).
  • Attends required Department meetings and in-services.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Displays an attitude that supports Kaweah Health values and department efforts and teamwork.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
