About The Position

As one of the fastest-growing academic health centers in the nation, Texas A&M Health encompasses five colleges and numerous centers and institutes working together to improve health through transformative education, innovative research and team-based health care delivery. The Health Educator plans, implements, and evaluates theory and evidence-based health promotion strategies, policies, programs, and services for students. Provides health training and guidance. Performs outreach functions on and off campus and supervises student staff, interns, and/or peer educators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Community Health Education, Public Health Education, School Health Education, or a related education discipline.
  • Two years’ experience in health promotion or related area.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification upon hire or the ability to obtain the certification within one (1) year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Health Promotion, Public Health, or Health Education.
  • Five years of experience administering comprehensive health education programming.
  • Experience providing resiliency-based training to college students.
  • Knowledge of resiliency programming and education for college students.
  • Experience providing health presentations on topics including anxiety, depression, stress, resources, sexual health, and nutrition.

Responsibilities

  • Outreach and Educational Presentations Responds to requests and provides educational presentations on health topics to student organizations, classes, faculty, staff, and others. Maintains collaborative relationships with student leaders, campus faculty, staff, and community partners. Serves as a campus resource for timely, current, and relevant health information related to college health.
  • Program Development Collaborates with key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health for students. Develops strategic plans, goals, and measurable objectives for health promotion programs and services. Develops program content, learning resources, and evaluation tools for specific educational interventions based on needs assessment results. Develops, implements, and analyzes periodic student health surveys to gather baseline and follow-up health data that identify program needs and priorities. Evaluates the effectiveness of programs and services and tracks trends in student health statuses and behaviors.
  • Training and Supervision Serves as advisor to peer educators. Prepares and reviews educational materials. Works with a team of health educators to hire, train, manage, supervise and evaluate volunteer student peer educators.
  • Administrative Maintains accurate program records, participation data, and outreach activity logs. Assists with preparing reports, summaries, presentations, and documentation related to health education initiatives. Supports scheduling, coordination, and logistics for outreach events, presentations, trainings, and meetings. Monitors inventory of educational materials, supplies, and resource handouts. Responds to routine inquiries from campus partners, students, and staff related to health education programs and services.
