About The Position

The Division of Population Health, Department of Medicine within the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences seeks a Health Educator. In this role as a Health Educator, you will deliver protocol driven health education interventions to study participants within the Division of Population Health via face-to-face, telephone, or videoconferencing technology as appropriate). The ideal candidate will practice strategic thinking, attention to detail, be dependable, enjoy working in a highly collaborative setting, and remain flexible in a fast-paced environment. Primary Functions: Protocol-driven health education and participant support tasks This category includes responsibilities related to delivering structured health education interventions and supporting study participants throughout the research process. Clinical research support tasks This category includes tasks that require clinical expertise to support the implementation of research protocols and involving participant health assessments and biological sample handling. Research coordination and community engagement tasks This category includes responsibilities that support the operational, collaborative, and outreach components of research studies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and RN License
  • Knowledge of biology, clinical judgement, documentation, records management, and cultural awareness.
  • Building trust, collaboration, decision-making skills, communication, critical thinking, and influencing skills.
  • Customer focus, interpersonal, empathy, listening, and patience.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering protocol driven health education interventions to study participants.
  • Scheduling and coordinating sessions, attend and participate in supervision sessions, record sessions as directed, and perform research health educator data collection during initial visit and follow-up sessions.
  • Organizing and reminding study participants of upcoming appointments.
  • Training study participants on key elements of study protocol.
  • Collecting blood and other biological specimen samples
  • Measuring and recording vital signs and anthropometric measures
  • Reviewing, calibrating, and performing quality control assessments of lab equipment
  • Serving as a liaison with lab staff to triage and interpret results
  • Assisting with multiple research grants as needed with tasks to support PI in writing and presenting research reports and research protocols.
  • Performing duties needed including case management and decision-making and working collaboratively with other center personnel to achieve goals of research studies.
  • Serving as liaison to various team members to ensure smooth running of research projects.
  • Providing health education to community sites, establish and nurture community partnerships, work with designated community sites to advance research, education, and training mission of the center.
