About The Position

The Health Educator position within the Public Health Division of the State of New Mexico focuses on promoting health and wellness, improving health outcomes, and providing safety net services. The role primarily involves conducting partner services and disease investigations for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) to reduce disease incidence and break the chain of infection. The Health Educator will engage in community outreach, testing, and screening, while also supporting various infectious disease activities.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in a health-related field.
• Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
• Must complete Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) training and Clinical Laboratory Improvements Act (CLIA) training within sixty (60) days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct integrated STD and HIV partner services, including case interviews and ensuring timely testing and treatment of contacts.
• Document STD and HIV partner services activities in the STD surveillance database and electronic health records (EHR) system.
• Provide STD surveillance and tracking, offering testing and screening for contacts to disease and persons at high risk.
• Support other infectious disease activities such as harm reduction, syringe services, opiate overdose prevention education, and hepatitis screening and referral.
