Incumbents collect and analyze data to identify individual and/or community needs prior to planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating programs and/or services designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies and environments. Incumbents may also serve as a resource to assist individuals, other professionals, or the community, and may administer fiscal resources for health or nutrition education programs. As the STD Health Educator, the incumbent has regional responsibilities in oversight and technical assistance of Area 4 which includes frequent contact with other local health departments, technical assistance, and provision of resources.

Requirements

  • Complete 500/501 HIV Counseling and Testing class within 3 months of hire.
  • Experience using Software systems (I.e. Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • 1 year of experience in the HIV/STD field with advocacy, outreach, testing, and/or education.
  • 1 year of experience facilitating presentations in various community/educational settings.
  • Experience public speaking.
  • Completion of STD PASSPORT training class within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Pre and Post test HIV counseling and provide Partner Counseling Referral Services (PCRS) in accordance with STD program policy.
  • Provide STD technical assistance to all Area 4 County Health Departments.
  • Conduct interviews, provide partner services, perform field investigations, PREP, NPEP, Test and Treat navigation and field testing for Syphilis and HIV.
  • Prepare and maintain timely and accurate reports as required by the STD/HIV Program.
  • Perform data entry activities in STARS to assist in the monitoring and tracking of clients.
  • Utilize HMS to record search laboratory results of patients reporting to the STD/HIV clinic.
  • Provide support services that facilitate the STD control efforts, including epidemiological assistance to other CHD’s or program areas.
  • Provide training and development in skills essential for disease intervention and prevention of STIs including HIV.
  • Communicate effectively in writing, in person, and through electronic means.
  • Participate in outreach events and presentations throughout Area 4.
