About The Position

The Health Education Coordinator plans, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates evidence-based health education initiatives designed to address identified community health needs. Supports the implementation and operational coordination of community health education programs and collaborates with the Community Health and Outreach Manager to ensure initiatives align with departmental goals and organizational priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Communication, or related field required.
  • 3 years of experience in health education, community health programming, experience coordinating community programs or initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and program coordination skills.
  • Ability to effectively educate individuals across diverse age groups and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Position requires travel to community locations within the Clinic’s service area; employee must provide reliable transportation.
  • Virginia Driver’s license required.
  • CPR Certification required within 6 months of hire into the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree preferred
  • CHES® or MCHES® certification strongly preferred or eligible to sit for the CHES exam within the first two years of employment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers evidence-based health education programs and interventions—including workshops, presentations, screenings, and community outreach events—designed to promote healthy behaviors and improve health outcomes within the community, with emphasis on underserved populations.
  • Plans, schedules, and implements community health education initiatives to ensure effective program delivery and community engagement.
  • Coordinates program logistics for community health education initiatives, including scheduling events, securing locations, preparing materials, and coordinating resources needed to support successful program delivery.
  • Assists the Community Health and Outreach Manager in monitoring program activities, workflows, and resource utilization to support operational effectiveness and program impact.
  • Supports onboarding and training of new health educators and community outreach staff to ensure readiness to deliver evidence-based health education programs.
  • Maintains program materials and supply inventories and coordinates restocking to ensure uninterrupted delivery of community-based initiatives.
  • Maintains program documentation, policies, procedures, and reporting requirements to support program integrity, compliance, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Coordinates approved staff training, in-services, and continuing education activities to ensure staff maintain required competencies and program fidelity.
  • Collects, tracks, and reports program data and outcomes to evaluate effectiveness and support community health improvement efforts.
  • Represents Carilion Clinic through professional interactions with community partners, organizations, and media to promote awareness of community health initiatives and available resources.
