The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 35 local health districts. In Central Shenandoah we proudly serve the counties of Augusta, Bath, Highland, Rockbridge and Rockingham, and the cities of Buena Vista, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Staunton and Waynesboro. The incumbent of this position would direct all medical, nursing, environmental health, administrative and other public health services in the Central Shenandoah Health District. The selected individual would utilize an interdisciplinary staff with efforts directed toward community assessment and health education, program design, program evaluation, resource allocation, quality of patient care, environmental protection and inter-agency organization of health-related activities. A non-physician health director shall rely upon a licensed physician on staff, if applicable, or shall enter into a consulting agreement (MOU/MOA) with a licensed physician for the purpose of executing prescribing duties, consulting on clinical matters, and carrying out all other State Health Commissioner delegated statutory authority requiring a physician in accordance with the Code of Virginia.
