Position Summary/Objective To further the mission of Girl Scout camp by providing for the health needs of all campers and staff. This position is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of everyone at camp through administering medications, first aid, and emergency care. The Health Director also conducts daily cleaning checks, creates kaper charts (camp chores), and conducts end-of-the-week cleaning checks of all units. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Provide healthcare to meet the individual needs of campers and staff. Deliver first aid and emergency care following camp procedures as defined in standing orders. Maintain accurate and detailed records of medical treatment according to camp procedures including transferring logs from unit and program area first aid kits to the general camp health log and logging all medications given to campers and staff. Prepare and record incident and accident report forms. Ensure staff and camper health paperwork is current and on file. Verify with parent/legal guardian correct medications and dosage for all campers. Communicate with the Camp Director regarding emergencies or major health concerns. Set up and manage the camp’s Health Office to ensure safe and secure storage of all medications and health equipment. Conduct inventory of health and first aid supplies at the beginning and end of the camp season. Order all medical supplies necessary to comply with standing medical orders and GSHOM procedures as needed, ensuring timely arrival of materials. Prepare and distribute first aid kits throughout camp including lodges, tents, kitchen, offices, and activity areas. Will refill first aid kits as necessary. Ensure adherence to safety and risk management guidelines to maintain high standards of health, safety, and supervision for campers and staff at all times. Help mitigate risk of communicable diseases and other infections as necessary. Supervise sanitary conditions throughout camp including a daily cleanliness check of units and other areas throughout camp. Assist in the responsibilities associated with upholding State of Michigan Licensing and American Camp Association regulations and standards. Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude, behavior, and following of camp procedures. Apply youth development principles to empower campers, embrace diversity, aid in competency development, and build connections. Participate as a member of the camp leadership team to plan and supervise camp activities and the implementation of staff training including leading educational and training sessions for counselors. Provide or ensure staff orientation is provided that covers standing orders, health office procedures, emergency procedures, staff health, assessment of campers, policies on contacting parents, transportation to outside health facilities, accident prevention and risk management, nutrition, and first aid in the camp setting. Ensure staff and campers know their role related to health care and first aid. Support counseling staff with daily care and supervision of camper Take the initiative to ensure that everyone has a great summer at camp. Other duties as assigned.
