The Health Emerging and Advanced Technologies (HEAT) Division in the Information and Communications Laboratory (ICL) at Georgia Tech is seeking a Student Assistant to work as a developer. This part-time position focuses on health data informatics and interoperability, collaborating with a team of FHIR developers, data scientists, and software engineers to create innovative solutions for public health and clinical health systems. Responsibilities include building, deploying, and testing backend solutions to address real-world health data challenges.

  • Work on projects related to health data informatics and interoperability.
  • Collaborate with a team of FHIR developers, data scientists, and software engineers.
  • Build, deploy, and test backend solutions for health data problems.
  • Develop interoperable backbones for Large Scale Mapping Tools.
  • Define Sickle Cell Disease phenotypes and craft proof-of-concept systems using FHIR.
  • Build FHIR pipelines for mortality data.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with the university during working semesters.
  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Strong Java or Python programming skills.
  • Experience with SQL, specifically PostgreSQL.
  • Experience working with remote teams.
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with code repositories like git and GitHub.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to learn complex data structure concepts.
  • Familiarity with Linux and open-source tools.
  • Interest or coursework in developing rapid prototypes using HL7 FHIR and SMARTonFHIR.
  • Part-time work experience in a research environment.
