About The Position

Mercer is seeking a Health Consulting Actuarial Intern for the Summer of 2026. This position is part of Mercer's Health practice, where over 2,500 US Health Consultants provide disciplined approaches to benchmarking, data analytics, financial management, marketing, compliance, and communication. The intern will perform basic cost projections using client data, price medical and prescription drug plan designs, and assist in developing customized pricing and valuation models. The role aims to build basic underwriting and actuarial skills while increasing awareness of health care plan design and cost factors.

Requirements

  • Progress towards a bachelor's degree in actuarial science, math, statistics, economics, engineering or other related fields.
  • Status as a currently enrolled student with an expected graduation date in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027.
  • Record of top academic achievement (minimum preferred GPA: 3.0/4.0).
  • A commitment to achieving a Society of Actuaries (SOA) designation.
  • Legal work authorization in the U.S. on a permanent and ongoing basis without the need for sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office—Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced programming skills (e.g., R, Python, SAS, SQL).
  • Knowledge of data analysis, project management, and presentation design.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to develop new skills.
  • Superior organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic cost projections using client cost and enrollment data.
  • Price medical & prescription drug plan designs using proprietary Mercer tools.
  • Assist in the development of customized pricing and valuation models.
  • Develop basic underwriting and actuarial skills.
