The Classroom-Based Health Care Technician II is responsible for providing educational services during the day program. The CBHCT II is responsible for implementing training for groups of residents addressing the skill areas of self-care, vocational, communication, community living, and functional academics. The CBHCT II is responsible for writing goaled programs and collecting data on resident objectives and for writing monthly progress notes. The CBHCT II is responsible for completing assessments and for communicating any needs for the day placement to the teacher who is assigned to oversee that site and for collaborating with the teacher to ensure appropriate services and schedules are carried out as prescribed. This position is assigned to work with a primarily dually/diagnosed population with varying skills and/or behavior issues to assist with social skills, self-care skills and any other community readiness skills as determined by the teacher and/or resource center director. The remainder of the job responsibilities involve providing basic care to residents and performing miscellaneous duties as needed, including toileting, dressing, meal coverage, floor coverage, etc. Because most residents in the Lakeside area are not totally independent in basic care skills, all staff must assist when necessary. Examples include cleaning toileting accidents that occur during training times when other staff are not available; assisting with hygiene; assisting medical staff with treatments, etc. The Health Care Technician II (Classroom Based) must be a role model to all support staff and as such, must understand person-centered philosophies, ICF-IDD standards, J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center Policies and Procedures, and state of the art services for people with developmental disabilities. The CBHCT II must be able to work with a variety of professional and paraprofessional staff. They must be organized and able to produce an appropriate volume of work within set timeframes. They must be able to work without direct daily supervision and be able to react quickly under stressful situations to keep residents safe. The CB HCT II must be able to accurately observe and record information.
