About The Position

The Peer Mentor / HCT-II is responsible for conducting the unit orientation, on-the-job precepting, providing on-on-one support, and the completion of unit-based non-nursing procedure checklists for new HCT’s. As a function of precepting new staff, the Peer Mentor/ HCT-II is responsible for providing direct observations resulting in the identification of needed remedial development and support as the new employee learns his/her job skills and successfully adjusts to the OBNMTC work culture. The Peer Mentor / HCT-II will be responsible for assisting the Floor Shift Nurse Supervisor in meeting staff ratios, filling resource needs, and preventing staff shortages as defined by Nursing policy when not actively mentoring new staff, may be required to flex shifts to meet the need of the facility and mentor new staff, rotate to other buildings, and provide direct resident care. This position is considered mandatory, which means that employees are required to report to work during adverse weather and emergency conditions.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • To be considered for employment the applicant must be in good standing with the NC Health Care Personnel Registry.
  • Employee will be required to successfully complete training through our Staff Development department which includes, but is not limited to NCI (North Carolina Intervention), CPR, Body Mechanics and lifting.
  • As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation.
  • As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

  • Demonstrated skills in working directly with individuals with the population served, Alzheimer's disease, psychiatric illness, on-going healthcare needs, dementia, issues of aging, or other health related fields.
  • Ability to effectively convey information to family members, individuals, and treatment team, under general supervision, in verbal and written forms.
  • Ability to document clear and concise notes of client progress and behaviors.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Experience providing direct care and person-centered support to residents with complex physical, intellectual, medical and behavioral needs.
