About The Position

This position is located at North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW) in Raleigh, North Carolina. NCCIW serves as the flagship facility for female offenders in the state. It functions as the primary processing center for the majority of newly incarcerated individuals and also houses pretrial detainees. The institution has the capacity to house approximately 1,700 female offenders and provides primary support to the state's other female facilities. This position performs technical work in the collection, processing, and handling of blood and other clinical specimens for diagnostic laboratory testing. Duties include venipuncture, capillary puncture, specimen labeling, specimen preparation, and ensuring proper transport to the laboratory in accordance with established policies and procedures. The employee applies established phlebotomy techniques and infection control standards while working with potentially infectious materials. Responsibilities include verifying offender identification, maintaining accurate documentation within the medical record, ensuring specimen integrity, and maintaining required quality and safety standards.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation.
  • As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience of test procedures and performance in a laboratory draw station
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience using laboratory equipment
  • Prior work experience as a Phlebotomist.
  • Documented knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Documented knowledge of planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.
