About The Position

Requirements

  • Current NYS employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Health Care Surveyor 2, G20.
  • Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State.
  • Two years of post-licensure, specialized professional administrative or clinical experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing may substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.
  • A master's degree in nursing may substitute for two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.
  • Federal Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test certification.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct the survey/investigative process in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner consistent with Department policies and procedures.
  • Document findings of survey investigations clearly and objectively to support surveillance/enforcement actions.
  • Review and make recommendations regarding physician's orders and medical care provided to long-term care residents.
  • Monitor correction of deficiencies and identify areas of substandard performance in medical care.
  • Act as a liaison with the supervisor/program manager regarding problems encountered in the surveillance/investigative process.
  • Demonstrate professional competence and responsibility in conducting surveys/investigations.
  • Communicate findings and significant issues clearly and promptly to facility staff and program managers.
  • Maintain a current knowledge base within the scope of clinical expertise and Department policy.
  • Prepare correspondence in a concise and appropriate manner according to required timeframes.
  • Prepare for and participate in enforcement proceedings by providing accurate and reliable testimony.
