About The Position

Under direction of a school nurse, provides for basic health needs of students and other employees. Duties include: assisting with special needs students’ personal and hygiene needs; conducting hearing and sight screenings; maintaining medical records; administering medications according to instructions; and monitoring students’ condition. Incumbents may also perform routine clerical duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid, AED and CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Valid Department of Public Safety (DPS) Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC)
  • Knowledge of modern office equipment and procedures
  • Knowledge of customer service principles.
  • Skill in Providing customer service

  • Skill in Operating modern office equipment

  • Skill in Keyboarding
  • Skill in Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Responsibilities

  • Administers medications under the direct supervision of the School Nurse and in accordance with applicable District policies and applicable State laws and regulations.
  • Administers and assists with basic first aid following the assessment of injured students and/or staff.
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties, which may include: inputting information into database; running report queries; making copies; creating labels; filing medical records; preparing routine correspondence; and/or, performing other related activities.
  • Cleans and sanitizes health center facilities to minimize viral and bacterial illnesses from spreading within the school community.
  • Phones parents to notify them of or inquire about student illnesses or other related information.
  • Assists in administering mandated screenings for vision and hearing in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Provides emergency personnel with critical data and information within established guidelines and procedures.
  • Assists in monitoring and maintaining inventory levels within the health center.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
