The Health Assistant will support the school nurse in the effective operation of the Comprehensive School Health Program, focusing on removing barriers to health and learning in the educational environment. This role involves administering medication, providing first aid, assisting with immunization programs, and maintaining confidential records, all under the supervision of the school nurse.

  • Assist the school nurse in maintaining the Comprehensive School Health Program (CSHP).
  • Administer medication and treatment according to policy.
  • Provide first aid according to established protocols.
  • Assist with the immunization program, including identification of deficiencies, referrals, follow-ups, and documentation.
  • Handle record keeping and paperwork confidentially.
  • Follow customer service standards set by McAllen ISD.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or Medical Assistant (MA) required.
  • Three years of health experience in community health or healthcare provider's office, including contact with school-aged children required.
  • Ability to use personal computer and software.
  • General clerical and file maintenance skills.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Hourly pay range from $13.85 to $19.33 based on experience.
