Umicore’s expertise covers the sourcing, production and distribution of cobalt and nickel products. Umicore’s materials are at the heart of products we use every day such as rechargeable batteries, tools, paints and tyres. Our recycling and refining processes give new life to cobalt and other metals and reduce environmental impacts. To meet the demands of our customers we cannot stand still. We need to find new ways to do things, discover new solutions and develop new ideas. Which is where you come in. As our Health & Safety Manager, you will be responsible for implementing and managing health and safety programs in our chemical manufacturing facilities in Tennessee and Louisiana. Specifically, this will include:

Requirements

At least 5 years’ hands-on experience with safety in a manufacturing environment;
Experience providing employee training and making presentations;
Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices;
Team-building skills;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to work well independently; and,
Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

Leading monthly site safety meetings and facilitating safety committee meetings;
Managing biomonitoring testing programs and ensuring appropriate protection measures are in place to maintain exposure limits below defined levels;
Identifying and managing PPE equipment and programs;
Creating and delivering new employee and contractor safety training and orientation;
Managing job safety analyses and participating in occupational and process safety incident reviews, which includes assisting with investigations;
Managing the site’s Risk Awareness Program and cultivating a strong culture focused on safety;
Developing, implementing, and monitoring leading safety indicators;
Supporting and participating in Safe Work Permit programs and retention of records;
Maintaining working relationships with governmental agencies and ensuring all safety-related inspections reflect compliance with applicable requirements; and,
Performing other duties as needed.
