About The Position

Hana Engineers and Consultants, LLC is seeking to hire a skilled full or part-time Health and Safety Manager (HSM) with at least five (5) years of experience to support Hana’s portfolio of projects in both federal government and commercial sectors. While this position is remote, it requires occasional travel to Hana offices and project sites, primarily located on the East Coast. Preference will be given to candidates based in Richmond, VA, with secondary consideration given to applicants elsewhere on the East Coast.

Requirements

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or ability to obtain certification within 6 months.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in health and safety management, preferably in environmental (e.g., sampling, drilling), engineering and construction environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of 29 CFR 1910.120 and EM 385-1-1 and other relevant safety standards.
  • Proven experience in writing and implementing APPs and AHAs.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to work independently in a remote setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with federal contracts or projects requiring strict safety compliance.
  • Additional certifications such as CIH, CHMM or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 or similar safety management systems.
  • Proficiency in safety management software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety programs in compliance with federal, state, and company standards.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA and EM 385-1-1 safety requirements for all applicable projects.
  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses; develop and review Accident Prevention Plans (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
  • Provide training and guidance to project teams on safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor and audit job sites remotely and through periodic visits to ensure compliance.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with project managers and technical staff to integrate safety into all phases of operations.
