About The Position

Health and Life Sciences Action Officer The Opportunity: To achieve an organization’s mission, leaders need strong team members who can develop and advance our client’s cross-cutting international goals in health and biotechnology partnerships. Whether creating new processes or communicating requirements, our clients need someone who can help develop innovative solutions and interact with counterparts in other federal agencies. That is why we need an experienced Health and Life Sciences Action Officer like you who can provide strategic support and our client’s leadership on issues relating to health R&D, organization structure, and management of breakthrough health technologies. As part of our team, you'll serve as a strategic technical specialist for the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), helping conceptualize, create, and execute advanced government-funded R&D programs to accelerate better health outcomes for everyone. You’ll work with world-class scientists and engineers to support the development of high-impact solutions to society's most challenging health problems. You’ll leverage technical expertise to provide strategic assessments of new technologies in support to senior ARPA-H decision-makers, and maintain responsibility for producing and presenting findings and recommendations to a team of colleagues and clients on the feasibility and potential impact of future research programs, assisting with the management of current programs, and facilitating commercialization of successfully developed technologies. You'll serve as a Health and Life Sciences Action Officer, as part of an exciting team, to provide high-level operational and executive support in a demanding, fast-paced environment. Above all, you have a deep commitment to advance international health and biomedical research. You will help clients understand issues related to policy and regulation, optimally leverage leadership time, support the broader team, and successfully serve the agency’s mission. You will provide support to senior leaders, serve as a point of contact for the office and other agency offices, manage incoming requirements, clearly communicate tasks, and track metrics. You will be readily available to shift your focus to fulfill emerging requests and special projects. Attention to detail, flexibility, strong communication skills, understanding of the international mission, and problem-solving will enable our client’s success.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience as a Chief of Staff or Action Officer to an organizational principal, senior leader, or executive
  • 5+ years of experience operating within the U.S. government
  • Experience in strategic planning, optimizing operations, and solving complex problems to achieve organizational goals
  • Ability to conduct thorough research, analyze data and organizational priorities, and generate actionable insights to inform strategic decisions
  • Ability to coordinate team efforts, track progress, and advise on strategies to achieve organizational goals
  • Bachelor’s degree

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of experience operating within the U.S. government
  • Experience engaging a broad range of stakeholders, including U.S. officials and private sector executives
  • Experience supporting ARPA programs such as DARPA, IARPA, or APRA-E, U.S. DoD advanced development programs, R&D, or start-up organizations
  • Ability to be well-organized, detail-oriented, and adept at multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities to meet deadlines
  • Possession of strong communication skills
  • Master’s degree in a related field

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic guidance and serve as a thought partner to office leadership to streamline processes, anticipate and mitigate blockers, and support goal-setting, operational planning, efficient execution, and external messaging or communications.
  • Coordinate efforts among the team to track division-level assignments, actions, and milestones, report on OKRs and other performance metrics, and advise and coordinate with agency leadership and teammates to reach goals.
  • Coordinate support for senior leadership engagement in various client activities such as industry events, HHS matters, and health ecosystem trips and other events.
  • Track important health and life science and U.S. government developments, and synthesize implications for office and agency efforts.
  • Work closely with other Action Officers so the agency is well-organized, prepared, and informed for meetings and other engagements, including handling, responding, collaborating, and communicating with a broad range of requests from inside and outside the agency.
  • Interact with other U.S. government officials, partners, academics, private sector, and other executives in various sectors.
  • Research health industry trends in technology, investments, and innovation, and share with the team.
