About The Position

The Health and Exercise Specialist (HES) supports Electric Boat’s Benefits and Wellness team by delivering direct employee engagement through training, classes, assessments, and wellness initiatives that promote health, safety, and engagement.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of experience in a private, commercial, or corporate fitness center.
  • Current group fitness and personal training certification from a nationally recognized organization (ACSM, ACE, NASM, or NSCA preferred).
  • Current Corrective Exercise certification from a nationally recognized organization or in process.
  • Ability to physically demonstrate fitness equipment and conduct assessments.
  • Ability to work varied hours between first and second shift.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology, kinesiology, human performance, or a related field.
  • Certifications in specialized group fitness classes (e.g., Spin, Yoga, Pilates).
  • Additional specialty certifications (e.g., Certified Nutrition Coach).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based platforms such as SharePoint.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Organization and attention to detail with administrative tasks

Responsibilities

  • Support fitness centers across Connecticut-based Electric Boat sites as business needs require.
  • Process fitness center memberships, renewals, cancellations, and related administrative tasks.
  • Maintain fitness equipment cleanliness, safety, and functionality; report issues to service providers.
  • Conduct fitness assessments and supervise individual and group workouts, including exercise modifications.
  • Provide one-on-one personal training and develop individualized fitness plans.
  • Teach a variety of group fitness classes on a weekly basis.
  • Create written and digital wellness content (articles, blogs, audio/video) to support EB’s Wellness Program.
  • Support the Sprains and Strains Injury Prevention Program through on-site stretching demonstrations.
  • Develop new fitness programs and classes to increase engagement and membership.
  • Perform biometric screenings, including BMI, body fat analysis, and blood pressure.
  • Support on-site wellness events such as blood drives, health fairs, and immunization clinics.
  • Participate in Electric Boat community partnership initiatives.
