About The Position

The Department of Neurology is seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join the Headache Division. Working under the general supervision of faculty and in accordance with established standardized procedures, the APRN/PA will provide comprehensive care to patients with neuromuscular disorders. Primary responsibilities include performing physical examinations, diagnosing and managing common episodic and chronic neurological conditions, counseling patients and families, and monitoring treatment outcomes. The provider will also assist in medical research activities within the division and participate in quality improvement initiatives. The APRN/PA will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members, consulting and referring as appropriate, while maintaining responsibility for the ongoing clinical management of assigned patients. This role requires a strong commitment to patient-centered care, research support, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Requirements

  • Master's or Medical degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties.
  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Instructor.
  • This position requires graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64, or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 458 and 459 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64.

Responsibilities

  • The APRN/PA will be under the general supervision and in accordance with the standardized procedure.
  • The position is responsible for performing physical examinations and treating common episodic and chronic healthcare problems, counseling patient and families, monitoring patient's progress, assisting with medical research projects.
  • Works in collaboration with healthcare team members, consulting and referring as appropriate, but retains responsibility for ongoing clinical management of the patient.
  • Updates patient's records, noting changes in medication and responses of patients.
  • Notifies physicians of changes in patient condition.
  • Participates in in-service educational programs and professional associations.
  • Develops and implements long and short range treatment plans.
  • May be assigned to train nursing/ medical students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
  • Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
  • Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
  • May represent the university, college/school, or department.
