Head Women's Basketball Coach

About The Position

This posting is for a full-time, 12-month, exempt position. The head women’s basketball coach is responsible for all aspects of the Women’s Basketball Program: operation of a NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Program, oversee recruiting yearly for the varsity and JV basketball program, understand and know NCAA II recruiting rules and regulations, fundraising, and game day set-up. Candidate must have the ability to coach the student athletes in game and practice situations. Monitor student progress throughout the semester and guide and counsel student athletes towards Graduation. Supervise staff (Assistant Coach, Stipend Assistant, and JV Coach), and maintain communication between coaching staff and administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of coaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, rules and regulations of athletic associations and conferences including eligibility, recruiting and certification.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Ability to objectively evaluate physical performance and mental capabilities related to the intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the public.
  • Strong organizational, oral and written communication, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to protect confidential information and present a professional demeanor.
  • Team-oriented individual with willingness to take initiative and be flexible, and the ability to work under occasional pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively with an ethnic, cultural and diverse student population.
  • Organize and operate a competitive NCAA II intercollegiate Basketball program.
  • Ability to have vision and develop a plan for success.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Ability to work without supervision and accomplish goals set forth by the administration and staff.
  • Public relations and promotion skills.
  • Knowledge of University and department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and GMAC rules and regulations, including recruiting, eligibility and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the intercollegiate program in compliance with the University, NCAA & GMAC rules & regulations as required.
  • Recommend & administer specific sports budget.
  • Participate in the public relations & promotion of the sports program.
  • Supervise assistant coaches & other staff as required.
  • Consult with various campus agencies as to eligibility, admission of student athletes, facilities needed, security, & financial aid.
  • Consult with student athlete as related to discipline, academic progress, personal growth.
  • Coordinate plan for physical conditioning & practice preparation.
  • Oversee practice sessions, pre-game preparations & on the floor, field, court during competition.
  • Evaluate talent of prospective student athletes, organization of home visits & phone contacts with prospect & family.
  • Perform necessary duties in relationship to fund raising through the Oilers Club.
  • Plan & organize all aspects of team travel.
  • Establish consistent guidelines & requirements for participation in the sport of basketball.
  • Report any violations of compliance regulations.
  • Ability to coach the student athletes in game & practice situations.
  • Organize a team that is competitive & representative of the University’s philosophy & compatible with its mission.
  • Meet recruiting goals.
  • Perform all other duties deemed appropriate for the position.
