This position works under minimal supervision organizing intercollegiate competition. The incumbent’s duties include scouting, recruiting players, developing and leading practices, ensuring athletic fitness and readiness for competition, and implements game strategies. The Head Volleyball Coach administers and manages all aspects of American University’s NCAA Division I women’s volleyball program within the rules and regulations of the University, the Patriot League, and the NCAA. Reporting to this position are two full-time assistant coaches. Essential Functions: Perform coaching and training of volleyball fundamentals for the purpose of successfully competing at the NCAA Division I level. Develop and lead practices. Ensure athletic fitness and readiness for competition. Scout opponents to develop and implement game strategy. Recruit student-athletes for the purpose of attracting quality players to the program. Responsible for directing all recruiting efforts of program including identifying needs each year and identifying potential student athletes to fill needs in order to attract quality players to the program. Responsible for program’s operation within NCAA rules. Responsible for working with compliance office to communicate with Admissions and Financial Aid Offices. Handle scouting opponents - Analyze statistics, strategies and personnel with coaching staff and team to formulate a clear game plan to be conveyed to student-athletes. Perform duties in conjunction with the Office of Development and Alumni Relations as it relates to publicity, fundraising, and alumni relations for both soccer program and athletic department as a whole in order to promote the team and the university. Perform evaluations of student-athletes and provide direction for personal problems to aid in developing well rounded individuals on and off the court. Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Athletics to support the department. Supervisory Responsibility: The Head Volleyball Coach supervises two Assistant Coaches. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Full-time. 35 hours per week. After hours and weekend work frequently required to attend games and related athletic events. Salary Range: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 annually. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent. 4 - 6 years of relevant experience. Preferred Education and Experience: Master's degree. Travel Required: Travel locally, regionally and nationally for competition and potentially internationally for recruiting.
