About The Position

The Head Volleyball Coach will lead the women's Volleyball team by recruiting, coaching, conditioning, and evaluating team players to provide a meaningful athletic participation experience for student-athletes. This position is engaged through an independent contractor arrangement, with payment by stipend. This person hired will NOT be an employee of Rockingham Community College.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1-2 years of coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level, or 2-3 years coaching experience at the high school or similar level
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully recruit, train, coach, and evaluate athletes in the game of volleyball
  • Experience in managing a sports team, knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations, and experience in scheduling and travel

Responsibilities

  • Represent the college by recruiting prospective student-athletes who understand the college's values and emphasis upon education.
  • Establish relationships and recruit volleyball student-athletes to develop roster.
  • Develop a centralized recruiting database to track recruiting targets and maintain communication with the Director of Athletics on recruiting.
  • Plan and conduct practices and related activities to prepare for competition.
  • Implement coaching strategies and teaching methods to develop student-athletes' skills and teamwork.
  • Analyze performance of team and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Evaluate opponents and develop game strategies.
  • Assist with the administration of policies and procedures regarding academic and non-academic expectations and regulations for team members.
  • Communicate with the Director of Athletics and academic advising staff regarding students' academic performance and course planning.
  • Meet with athletes on performance issues, study skills, and techniques for academic success.
  • Assist the athletic trainer/team physician to arrange physical examinations, address insurance claims, medical help for injured athletes, and respect decisions by the trainer/team doctor to withhold athletes due to injury.
  • Develop a plan to attend 1 match of each county high school during fall season.
  • Report scores and statistics in a timely manner to all score reporting areas.
  • Attend all practices, trips and scheduled competitions (including evenings and weekends) and travel with team.
  • Maintain adequate records, statistics, scores, etc. of game results and student athletes' participation records and accomplishments.
  • Manage equipment inventory and related duties as assigned by Director of Athletics.
  • Drive college passenger bus/van to off-campus matches.
  • Represent the college, the athletic department, and the community in a positive manner and reflect adherence to institutional values and expectations.
  • Read, understand, and abide by current National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) regulations.
  • Establish realistic responsibilities and reliable procedures for assistant coach.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with college and community members including students, employees, parents, and the press.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by the Director of Athletics.
  • Conduct oneself professionally in all relationships with student-athletes, faculty, staff and the public.
  • Regularly communicate and maintain high expectations of how student-athletes are to represent the college both on and off the court.
