OVERVIEW In accordance with education-based athletics, Assistant Coaches will work with Head Coaches to develop an effective coaching program plan which includes skill development, practice planning, supervision of all levels of the sport, focusing on individual and team growth while instilling the highest ideals of character. Assistant Coach will effectively communicate with Head Coach, student-athletes, parents, & administration. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Knowledgeable of the contents of the Charles County Public Schools Extra-Curricular Handbook and adhere to and enforce all policies pertaining to athletics and organization sponsorship. Assists head coach/sponsor with pre-season meeting. Reports directly to head coach/sponsor. Sets an example of good moral and physical behavior. Makes recommendations to the head coach for improvements, new equipment, etc. Reports to practice thirty minutes before announced practice time on non-school days. Secures building during each practice. Secures building after each practice and game. Helps keep coach's office clean. Informs players of their responsibilities and enforce all rules set up by the school, county, and state. Teaches fundamentals. Promotes sportsmanship. Checks constantly for damaged property and equipment and report damage immediately to the proper authority. Makes sure all players fulfill the eligibility requirements of Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association and the Charles County Board of Education. Provides the athletic director/principal with all pertinent certifications required by the MPSSAA and Charles County Public Schools. Supervises every minute of every practice/activity. Assumes responsibility for conduct and well-being of every player/student on trips. Delegates duties to student managers but retain responsibility for their action. Conducts self- and team to be a credit to the school and the community. Attends all varsity games and assist head coach or scout for the varsity. Collects and check in all equipment. Assisting with inventory must be turned in to the athletic director/Principal. Makes a list of missing equipment, including the student responsible. Sees that equipment is placed in proper storage area. Puts aside any equipment needing repair and give a list of this equipment to the athletic director. Collects cost of lost equipment from players. Turns in money collected to athletic director or Head Coach. Makes a list of all players who qualify for letter awards, etc. Assists head coach with a list of special honors received by team members. Attends coaches' meetings, clinics, etc. Completes list of school records for each sport including new records set for the season, etc. Helps assist head coach with budget request for next season. Items should be listed in order of priority.
