About The Position

Cornell University Library (CUL) seeks a Head, Teaching and Learning , to lead the integration of multiple literacies across the curriculum, foster pedagogical innovation, and oversee efforts to assess and enhance the impact of our educational initiatives. This dynamic leader will foster a collaborative culture, communicate CUL’s mission and strategic goals, and champion the One Library vision. The Head will focus on strategic leadership and program development , including instructional planning activities, to ensure our established and emerging teaching and learning efforts align with university priorities . They will cultivate cross- CUL and campus collaborations and advance assessment of information literacy instruction and undergraduate learning outcomes . The Head will be responsible for helping establish th e new Teaching and Learning department and for managing its personnel and initiatives. This position will champion the development of librarians and staff related to instructional and curricular design, assessment, and pedagogy through programming and activities. Librarians at Cornell University hold academic appointments as Research, Teaching, and Extension faculty and must meet Cornell University Library requirements for promotion and reappointment .

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or an advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of five years of work experience with increasing responsibility focused on teaching and learning within academic libraries or higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage within a complex organization to achieve a vision and meet goals.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to developing teaching and learning partnerships with university collaborators and communities.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, assessment practices, and/or pedagogical theory.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to universal design for learning and fostering a diverse learning community.
  • A record of scholarship, professional involvement, and service.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in education, instructional or curriculum design, or related field.
  • Knowledge of traditional and emerging pedagogical methods and approaches, and experience with developing staff in those areas.
  • Experience in instructional planning (i.e., curriculum maps, syllabi assessments, etc.) to design, organize, and align learning experiences with university priorities.
