About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Aquatics Programs Supervisor, the Head Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching safe, fun and educational Swim Lessons for participants enrolled in the Elk Grove Swim School, supervision of the Swim Instructor Staff, and general organization of the Elk Grove Swim School. The Head Swim Instructor may be a year-round or seasonal employee.

Requirements

  • CPR Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Critical thinking and effective decision making skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to work cooperatively in teams and with others
  • Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees
  • Ability to complete Mandated Reporter Training within 6 weeks of hire
  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions
  • Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees
  • Ability to resolve conflict and make decisions quickly and easily

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with children preferred

Responsibilities

  • Familiarity with all basic swimming strokes and water safety skills
  • Follow the Elk Grove Swim School standards and guidelines for each level of lessons
  • Maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • Attend monthly in-service trainings to maintain and improve upon skills and techniques
  • Instruct participants of all ages and levels of swimming ability
  • Correct various stroke techniques of individual participants
  • Flexibility to fill in and teach any level of class necessary
  • On-deck greeter for participants, members and guests
  • Help facilitate communication between parents, instructors and the Aquatics Programs Supervisor
  • Make sure the pool deck is cleaned and organized at all times
  • Assists in training and evaluating swim instructors
  • Supervise all program staff and report issues to the Aquatics Programs Supervisor
  • Provides excellent customer service to all program participants and pool guests
  • Creating a safe and fun environment for all program participants
  • Ability to swim and familiar with swim programs
  • Schedule staff and respond to coverage needs in daily schedule
  • Bring and use proper sun protection on every shift that includes time outdoors
  • Organize lessons equipment and storage area before and after daily classes
  • Completion of all Elk Grove Swim School paperwork pertaining to swim lesson program
  • Serve as a Mandated Reporter
  • Go beyond the expected to provide exemplary customer service to patrons, including sharing information about the pool rules, EGPD programs, facilities, and events, and answering questions
  • Perform the job safely and in compliance with the district policies, procedures, work and safety rules
  • Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks
  • Follow all Federal and State Labor Laws
  • Maintain a commitment to the operation of a safe and effective aquatics environment
  • Responsible for other duties as deemed appropriate by the Pool Manger, Aquatics Supervisors, or Aquatics Manager
