About The Position

The Y is a leading nonprofit for strengthening the community, and the nation’s largest provider of swim lessons to increase skill and safety in and around water. This position provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

Requirements

  • Certifications preferred: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification through the American Red Cross
  • Working knowledge of competitive aquatics.
  • Ability to relate to participants and parents.
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Proficient knowledge of all 4 strokes.
  • Either YMCA or USA swim coach certified preferred
  • Prior experience: At least 1 year of competitive swimming experience: USS club, YMCA club, or High School.
  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
  • Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child
  • Must be able to complete and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid; able to assist individuals in need until professional help arrives.
  • Ability to quickly identify emergency situations (medical, fire, environmental, etc.) and respond appropriately following established procedures.
  • Required to report all safety incidents and hazards immediately and accurately to supervisors.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for all staff, members, and participants.
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks related to safety, including assisting individuals of various ages and physical abilities.
  • Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain proper records, team rosters, and swim team reports as needed.
  • Organize and implement the swim team practices and meet schedules, attend swim meets, develop events, and coordinate entry information.
  • Relate to parents concerns through individual contacts by appointments or phone calls.
  • Coordinate end of season banquet.
  • Organize and implement one in season fundraiser(swim-a-thon, car wash, ect.) (year round team)
  • Support, develop, and promote all YMCA programs.
  • Ability to accurately assess individual swim levels for proper training.
  • Organize and implement pre-season registration, uniforms, and information meetings.
  • Responsible for setting up and removing pool equipment for all practices and swim meets.
  • Organizing parent groups and volunteers for all fundraisers, swim meets, and YMCA functions.
  • Recruit and hire one paid assistant swim coach position.
