About The Position

The Head Supplemental Instruction Leader (HSI) acts as the team lead for their specific subject area within the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program, which provides regularly scheduled, out-of-class, peer-facilitated sessions in historically difficult classes. All students in the courses with SI are invited to attend the free SI study sessions. The HSI is responsible for overseeing the SI Leaders, ensuring they are well-trained and effective in their roles. This position is crucial for maintaining the quality and effectiveness of the SI program.

Requirements

  • Complete two semesters of being an SI Leader.
  • Maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Be available during the final month of the semester to shadow the current HSI.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all essential duties of an SI Leader, as well as 4-5 hours per week devoted to HSI specific tasks.
  • Understand all operational aspects of scheduling programs, TutorTrac, and be able to train new SI Leaders as required.
  • Assist with the observation and evaluation process of SI Leaders.
  • Be a resource and guide for training for all SI Leaders.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the SI Coordinator.
  • Lead monthly team meetings with SI Leaders to promote their leadership development and to increase program effectiveness.
  • Assist in the facilitation of EDT 310 B training modules.
  • Assist in the recruitment and hiring process of potential SI and HSI Leader candidates.
