About The Position

Under the supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer, the Strength and Conditioning Coach will oversee a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for all 21 Guilford College athletic teams. The individual in this role is expected to perform their duties and responsibilities in a fashion that supports the college’s commitment to creating an academic institution where a variety of persons and perspectives are welcome, as well as to providing an environment where students from all cultures and backgrounds may succeed.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree.
  • National Strength Coaches Association’s CSCS certification (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) or equivalency.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-3 years related experience coaching strength and conditioning at the collegiate level.
  • Preference will be given to qualified candidates who also demonstrate a commitment to recruiting, retaining, mentoring and actively engaging with under-represented and underserved populations both on campus and in the broader community.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for all student-athletes and intercollegiate athletic programs.
  • Collaborate with coaching staff on team-specific programming.
  • Have supervisory responsibility and approval for all team-specific strength and conditioning programming.
  • Collaborate with Sports Medicine staff to assist in educating student-athletes on best practices for injury prevention as well as injury reduction exercises and rehabilitation.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities, Operations and Intramurals on scheduling usage for individuals and teams use of the Mary Ragsdale Fitness Area.
  • Instruct and monitor student-athletes regarding proper weight training techniques.
  • Ensure the safe operation of all strength and conditioning equipment with the enforcement and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Provide proper nutrition education for all student-athletes within the scope of practice for a certified strength and conditioning coach.
  • Knowledge of and oversight of speed, agility and flexibility training for all teams.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to all college, NCAA and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rules and regulations.
  • Some travel to away contests and limited game day management of home contests may be required.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Handles other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or the Head Athletic Trainer/Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.
