Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with emphasis on fast, friendly service.
  • Assist customers with product suggestions and engage in suggestive selling through phone calls, intercom announcements, and direct interaction.
  • Answer and respond to incoming calls appropriately; resolve customer concerns and escalate to the Store Director as necessary.
  • Support promotional and seasonal initiatives by assisting with sales promotions and merchandising plans.
  • Assist with planning nightly operations and monitoring production processes in alignment with company procedures and profitability goals.
  • Possess working knowledge of all department duties, including Opening/Closing, Dairy, and Frozen procedures.
  • Supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees.
  • Train team members on store policies, sales procedures, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Monitor employee productivity and reinforce adherence to department standards.
  • Build, rotate, and maintain grocery displays to ensure products are fresh, properly coded, and visually appealing.
  • Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays consistent with corporate guidelines.
  • Ensure all merchandise is accurately priced, labeled, and properly presented.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the department.
  • Control inventory to ensure proper product quantity, quality, freshness, and compliance with division directives.
  • Stock and rotate product, maintaining fully stocked and organized shelves and backroom areas.
  • Supervise reclamation processing and ensure in‑stock conditions are maintained across all Grocery Department areas.
  • Assist with physical inventory conducted every six months.
  • Enforce proper code dating for all products within the department.
  • Perform receiving duties: break down loads, verify invoices, inspect product quality, report shortages, and rotate/stock merchandise.
  • Follow product temperature guidelines, proper storage processes, and safe handling procedures.
  • Operate department equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and the Sterilox machine.
  • Implement correct product preparation techniques in line with food safety and company standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, company policies, and temperature control requirements.
  • Accurately complete, maintain, and monitor required logs and paperwork, including daily log sheets, sales and labor reports, and inventory documents.
  • Maintain accurate record‑keeping and administrative documentation as required by company standards.
  • Apply working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
